Guess who’s now a blonde?
For the 2017 American Music Awards, Selena Gomez traded in her signature raven tresses for platinum blonde locks and with it came two attention-grabbing outfits styled by long-time collaborator and legendary stylist Kate Young.
As she hit the show’s red carpet, Gomez stunned in a custom long-sleeved leather mini dress with silver moto hardware and complementary blue and silver star embroideries designed by Coach‘s Creative Director Stuart Vevers. Pulling together her all-black biker chic ensemble is a quilted clutch and embellished matching pumps from the American label. “I wanted the red carpet look to be a counterpoint to her performance look. So we went with a tough, sexy Coach look — which took two weeks to create — and Roberto Coin jewelry. She looks so hot in this outfit, especially with her new blonde hair!”
The stylish pair, who have worked together for three-and-a-half years, will text each other sartorial ideas and inspirations, often adapting Gomez’s red carpet style for her mood and current projects.
“Petra Collins directed the performance, and when we were discussing the look and feel of the performance, we referenced ‘Twin Peaks’ & ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock.’ That conversation totally got me into a Gunne Sax mood,” says Young. This artistic vision resulted in a dramatic performance of “Wolves” from Gomez, who rocked a delicate silk slip dress off-set with sporty white sneakers and a Tiffany & Co. diamond cross necklace. “I think she looked gorgeous and fit into Petra’s vision of the performance.”
