Reggae star Buju Banton has come to the defence of fellow Jamaican entertainer Beenie Man, following criticism from Prime Minister Andrew Holness over comments about Hurricane Melissa relief efforts.
The controversy began after Beenie Man questioned the distribution of hurricane assistance during an international interview, prompting Holness to accuse him of making false claims and damaging Jamaica's reputation overseas.
Responding on social media, Buju rejected the suggestion that entertainers simply benefit from Jamaica's international image, arguing that musicians have spent decades building the country's global cultural identity through their talent and hard work.
Meanwhile, Holness has defended the government's recovery efforts, pointing to more than 300 million Jamaican dollars spent repairing the Black River Hospital, while acknowledging that challenges remain.
The exchange has sparked wider discussion about disaster relief accountability and the role of Jamaican entertainers in representing their country internationally.
