Protoje first gained notice for his 2005 mixtape Lyrical Overdose Volume 1, featuring mostly hip hop-influenced songs. His debut album, “The Seven Year Itch,” was released in 2011.
Protoje’s previous chart-topper was 2015’s Ancient Future. The 8 Year Affair was released in 2013 peaked the chart at number 5.
Protoje’s mother is Jamaican singer Lorna Bennett, best known for her 1972 rendition of ‘Breakfast in Bed,’ while his father is a former calypso king from the island nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
