President Donald Trump has once again pleaded with Swedish authorities to free detained rapper A$AP Rocky as he accused the country of “letting the African American community down.” On Thursday, prosecutors charged him with assault in connection with a fight in Stockholm on June 30.
Trump tweeted late on Thursday: “Give A$AP Rocky his FREEDOM. We do so much for Sweden but it doesn’t seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem! #FreeRocky.” In a later tweet, he added: “Treat Americans fairly!”
The U.S. president first waded into the case after Mayers’ friends Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West called on him to intervene. Earlier this month, Trump said he called Prime Minister Stefan over the situation that “so many people would like to see quickly resolved.” Responding to Trump’s latest tweets, a spokesman for Löfven said “everyone is equal before the law,” adding that the government could not influence legal proceedings.
