Angela Bassett says Keke Palmer would be her choice to portray her if a movie were ever made about her life.
During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Bassett acknowledged the resemblance fans have long noticed between the two actresses, pointing to their similar cheekbones and eyes. She also praised Palmer’s personality and energy, describing her as one of the best.
The two share a relationship dating back more than 20 years. Bassett played Palmer’s mother in the 2006 film Akeelah and the Bee, which became Palmer’s breakthrough role when she was just 11 years old.
Their connection has continued throughout Palmer’s career. Earlier this year, Palmer presented Bassett with the Excellence in the Arts Award at the 2026 American Black Film Festival Honors, recognising Bassett’s four decades of work in film and television.
