Knicks End 53-Year Wait to Win NBA Championship

June 14, 2026

The New York Knicks are NBA champions for the first time in 53 years.

Led by an incredible performance from Jalen Brunson, the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94–90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to secure the series 4–1 and bring a championship back to New York.

Brunson delivered a historic night, scoring 45 points and taking over in the final quarter when the Knicks needed him most. His performance earned him NBA Finals MVP honors and cemented his place in franchise history.

What made this championship run even more impressive was New York’s ability to fight back. The Knicks came from behind in every one of their four Finals wins, including overcoming a 16-point deficit in the deciding game.

After the final buzzer, Brunson reflected on the moment:

“It’s everything I ever dreamed of.”

Head coach Mike Brown, in his first season with the team, helped guide New York to a championship in a year that few expected.

Supporting Brunson throughout the Finals were Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart, completing the core group that helped transform the Knicks into title contenders.

For the Spurs, Dylan Harper led the scoring effort while Victor Wembanyama added a strong all-around performance, but San Antonio couldn’t stop New York’s late-game surge.

Back in New York, celebrations erupted across the city as fans marked the end of a championship drought that lasted more than five decades.

After years of rebuilding and near misses, the Knicks are back on top of the basketball world.
