LeBron James addressed his future for the first time since his high-profile departure from the Los Angeles Lakers, telling a capacity crowd in New York that he is eager for the next chapter of his storied career.

Speaking Thursday at Fanatics Fest NYC during a live recording of the “Mind the Game” podcast, James maintained a degree of mystery regarding his next team. While he avoided naming specific franchises, the four-time NBA champion expressed gratitude for his tenure in Southern California while acknowledging he is entering the sunset of his professional journey.

“I spent eight great years with the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most historical franchises in the world,” James said. He offered specific thanks to Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, and General Manager Rob Pelinka. “I’m gonna miss them all, obviously. So that was an unbelievable ride, and I’m just looking forward to what holds next as I wind down the final stages of my journey.”
The 20-year veteran, who is now a free agent, has sparked a frenzy of speculation across the league. Analysts and fans have floated several potential destinations, ranging from a homecoming in Cleveland to a return to the Miami Heat. Rappers and various public figures, including Rick Ross, have already begun publicly lobbying for James to return to South Florida, where he previously won two championships.
