BURNA BOY MAKES HISTORY AS THE FIRST AFRICAN TO SELL OUT A U.S. STADIUM

July 17, 2023

Last year Burna Boy became the first ever Nigerian artist to headline Madison Square Garden. This year, he has made history again, as the first ever African to sell out a U.S. stadium.

On Saturday (July 8), the Nigerian superstar headlined Citi Field, a 41,800-capacity stadium. He performed songs from his last four albums Love DaminiTwice As TallAfrican Giant, and Outside. The also gave the crowd an exclusive listen to new music and even brought out British rapper Dave to help perform their collaboration, “Location.” SZA and Busta Rhymes were among the few celebrities in the crowd.

After the show, Burna Boy took to Instagram to reflect on his performance journey in New York from playing at the 1,800-capacity PlayStation Theater in 2017, the 500-capacity Gramercy Theatre in 2018, the 1,538-capacity Apollo Theatre in 2019, the close to 20,000-capacity sold out MSG show in 2022 to now at Citi Field. “What a journey. God to God,” the post reads.
