Cedric The Entertainer Responds To Katt Williams’ Joke Theft Claims

December 21, 2025

Cedric the Entertainer is speaking out for the first time about the accusations Katt Williams made during his viral 2024 Club Shay Shay interview, where Williams alleged that Cedric had stolen one of his jokes and hurled several other insults. Cedric says he genuinely didn’t know any issue existed until he watched the interview himself, and he’s now sharing his side of the story.

During a sit-down on Deon Cole’s Funny Knowing You podcast, Cedric was asked directly whether anyone had ever taken a joke from him. Without hesitation, he replied, “Yeah man, Katt Williams.” The two comedians laughed, but Cedric then elaborated on why he never bought into the accusation. “I think about it in the sense that we actually do live culturally in the same kind of energy. And I always think that my particular sense of humor is mine,” he said. “You might do something that’s similar to my idea, but I kind of grew up as a wordsmith, and we use a lot of language. We use a lot of wordplay in my family. So I just never like really bought into it unless somebody literally did my joke.”

Cedric explained that overlapping ideas happen in comedy all the time and that he viewed the situation as part of the industry rather than a personal offense. Reflecting on the St. Louis performance Williams referenced, he said the young comic who approached him then — Williams — came off as “arrogant.” But when Cole asked Cedric whether he felt hurt by the interview, Cedric said no. What bothered him instead was the wave of negativity it stirred within the comedy world. “I was more disappointed that it started this energy where comics was going on dogging other comics,” he said.

He also noted that Williams never addressed the issue with him privately, despite seeing each other many times over the years. Cedric added, “You’re talking about something that happened in 2001, and now you in 2024 acting like the shit just happened.”

Closing out the discussion, Cedric highlighted the projects he’s currently juggling — including a Las Vegas residency with Toni Braxton — and said he remains focused, fulfilled, and busy.
