Childish Gambino is facing a lawsuit for allegedly stealing the hit song “This Is America.”

TMZ reports that Gambino’s song sounds similar and has a similar title to Kidd Wes’s song “Made in America”. Wes, whose real name is Emelike Nwosuocha, created his song and posted it on his SoundCloud in September 2016 and later posted it on YouTube. 

Wes also stated that the song was registered with the U.S Copyright Office in May 2017. Gambino’s song was released in 2018 and won Record of the Year at the Grammy’s. 

The news outlet also reports that Wes is claiming that the chorus of “This Is America” is “practically identical to his “Made in America.”
